Completed his Nuclear Medicine residency training at Northwestern University in Chicago in 1974 and the same year joined the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago. In 1977 became Director of Nuclear Medicine and in 1982 Professor of Radiology / Nuclear Medicine at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago. In 1996 completed a 1 year Sabbatical at the Laboratory of Neurosciences of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland and, upon return, became Assistant Department Head for Information Systems in the Department of Radiology. During over 30 years, in Academic Nuclear Medicine Dr. Pavel has had a special interest in computer processing of functional imaging and since 1993 has concentrated on Brain SPECT. At the NIH he studied modalities of image processing of functional Brain images. Since 2005 he became full time Director of “PathFinder Brain SPECT” at The Neuroscience Center in Deerfield IL where he is involved in the diagnostic evaluation of patients with complex Neuropsychiatric disorders. Has published and lectured, at numerous national and international meetings, on the use of Brain SPECT in Neuropsychiatric disorders of the young and old age. Since 2000 has been listed in the “Top Doctors” listings compiled by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Board Certified in Nuclear Medicine since 1974 and State licensed in Illinois and California.
